Holiday Gift Ideas for the Seafood Lover

This season, we want to help you find a unique gift for the seafood lovers / a-fish-ionado in your life! Consider surprising them with one of these thoughtful gifts!

  1. Simmering the Sea - A One of a Kind Cookbook from Eating with the Ecosystem

Eating with the Ecosystem partnered with the famous culinary program at Johnson and Wales University to bring New Englanders this beautiful / captivating hardcover guide and cookbook.

Inside Simmering the Sea, seafood enthusiasts get a fascinating glimpse into the lives of 40 species AND learn how to prepare them like pro. Whether the gift recipient is a lifelong fishermen or in the beginning stages of their seafood relationship, receivers of Simmering the Sea will be thrilled with the insights, recipes, and beautiful graphics.

At $20.00 /book and all proceeds benefit a nonprofit organization, this is a gift you’ll feel great about giving. Right now, Eating with the Ecosystem is offering a gift bundle - a copy of the book AND a t-shirt for $27.50.

2. Gift a Seasonal Share of Seafood From a Community Supported Fishery (CSF)

Gift a fish-lover fish? Absolutely!

CSFs are the ultimate gift - it will allow someone to receive a share of the fishermen’s catch every week! Seafood in a CSF comes directly from local fishermen so you know the quality, price, and feel-good feelings are part of this gift.

Our two favorite CSFs are Cape Ann Fresh Catch (Northshore, Boston, and Boston suburbs) and NH Community Seafood (Portsmouth to Manchester to Laconia). By giving a person (or family!) a fish share, they get to pick-up an ever-changing selection of locally caught seafood at any of their convenient pick-up locations.

Recipients will take home a variety of fish including Atlantic pollock, haddock, redfish, monkfish, and can choose to add-on lobsters, oysters, and scallops - YUM!

There’s a tiny catch though. Rough winter weather slows down fishing during the first few months of the year, so this is a gift that kicks into gear during early spring. Patience will be rewarded. Trust us.

3. Make Them An Oyster Shucking Kit

  1. Everyone has an oyster partner, right? They are that one person who is ALWAYS ready to run with you to catch the last remaining minutes of an oyster happy hour!

This holiday season, show your gratitude by gearing them up with everything they need to shuck their own oysters!

We highly recommend a pair of oyster gloves (or two pairs if you’re going to get off your butt and help shuck), a thick kitchen towel, and one (or two!) oyster knifes that have a cushy rubber grip. Oh yeah, and a dozen oysters from your favorite fishmonger.
